Not Your Ordinary Café | Cool Beans Library Café
By: Ace Alabanza
Are
you a coffee lover, a book lover or just someone who wants to chill in an
awesome new place? Well, Cool Beans Café located at 67-A Maginhawa
Street, Brgy. UP Village, Quezon City offers you a different way to chill. It
is the first library café that serves Philippine highland coffee in Metro
Manila. You can read books, magazines and comics while savoring your coffee.
A couple owns the café, Scott Lleva and Lot Deleste. The
idea of serving highland coffee came during Lot’s trip to Baguio when she
instantly fell in love with the taste of Kalinga, Sagada and Benguet coffee.
The idea of having a library in a café is because Scott and Lot are book lovers
so they decided to put up some reading materials since it is located near
schools and universities. At first, they only had to display some of their
favorites but as luck would have it, the place they rented used to be a storage
area for books previously rented by a professor. When they bought the lease of
the place, they also acquired the books.
Books and coffee is always a match. When I first got here
with my friend, I noticed the bookshelves on the side, which consists of
different kinds of books consisting of history books, art and humanity books,
novels, magazines and even comics. The next thing I noticed is that the couches
are arranged on one side while the other tables are set up on the other side.
The architectural design is cozy and makes you want to stay for a long time.
And of course, the one that caught my senses is the aroma of the coffee that
drags you to order.

Their bestseller coffees are Kapeng Barako, Sagada Roast,
Benguet Roast and Kalinga Roast. They offer hot or iced coffee depends on you.
Their coffee is divided into 4 categories: Specialty Highland Coffee,
Coffee-Based Frost Blends, Coffee-Free Frost blends and Brewed Coffee/Espresso.
They also offer non-coffee beverages such as hot chocolate, iced chocolate,
iced tea and orange juice. The prices are affordable since it ranges from
P80-130. While they also serve cakes, sweets, pasta, soups, salads and rice
meal, price ranges from P100-200.
I ordered Cappuccino Frost Blend and a Chocolate slice of
cake and I only spend almost P200 while my friend ordered Mocha Brewed Coffee.
Their coffee is one of the best I have tasted in a very affordable price.
Cool Beans Café has been featured lately in the movie "English Only, Please" where Jenelyn Mercado and Derek Ramsey met. Being featured in the movie is of big help to promote the café. And I hope that the place does not become overrated. You should try it though!
