Manenaya
Reflection Paper: “Manenaya”
Manenaya is a short film written and directed by
Richard Soriano Legaspi. Manenaya is a Kapampangan term for
“waiting.” The film depicts about a person waiting for her husband’s missing
body.
In
the composition of the film, I noticed that there are different symbols that
were shown. Each symbol was depicted in different scenes. For example, in one
scene, it focused on the coffin while in the other scene, it focus on the other
parts of the house like the windows, the stairs and the sampayan. Since the film has a lot of symbols, the viewers can draw
their subjective interpretations. And each scene in the film was neatly cut.
Not
only were the people focused in each scene but it also showed everything in the
background; it focused on the mountains, the clouds in the sky, the flowing of
the water in the river and the sandy road. I also think that it has a good
exposure because in some parts it maintain as much detail as possible in both
the very bright parts and in the very dark parts of each scene.
Another
is the camera angles; there were different kinds of camera angles. There was
the close-up shot, the establishing shot and other type of shots. Since
it was in a dialect-form of language, it made a bigger impact on us, the
viewers, because it makes us feel like we are part of the scene.
